Unite Community members will be speaking and supporting this great event. Will you be there too??

1 March: There will be a 1984-85 Miners’ Strike Commemoration at the Red Shed (Wakefield Labour Club), 18 Vicarage Street, Wakefield WF1 1QX (by the Trinity Walk, Frederick Street Entrance).

The event is being held 30 years to the day when the NCB announced the closure of the Cortonwood pit and the year long dispute began.

Speakers include Ken Rowley (who was a NUM official at Selby during the strike), Christopher Emms (Chair, Unite’s Leeds Community branch) and Alan Stewart (convenor, Wakefield Socialist History Group).

More speakers will be announced in due course.

There will also be live music, sketches from members of the “Red Shed Players” and a light buffet.

The event is organised by Wakefield Socialist History Group.
