New Year Message from Unite Community Leeds

,italianworkers

Dear Friends,

What a year it has been! 2014 begins with the Unite Community Leeds having grown  to exceed 150 members. Our branch has established itself at the forefront of the anti austerity and social justice movements both locally and nationally. We as a branch and our members individually have spearheaded campaigns from anti bedroom tax protests, fighting for real jobs to tackling  non unionised workplaces.

It has been a great year for our union too! The attacks by the media on Unite, the like we haven’t seen for decades, clearly demonstrates that we are doing something right. 2013 has seen many victories for our members and the ruling class are running scared! As our General Secretary Len affirmed earlier on this year “This shows one thing above all,” he said “Unite is making a difference. We have served notice on the Establishment that fighting trade unionism is back – and the elite don’t like it.”

However, we must not forget that we have plenty more fighting to do. The Grangemouth episode proved to us just how odious the ruling class can be in achieving their ends. It is vitally important that we continue to grow our community branches and our union as a whole. Tell your friends, neighbours, colleagues, everyone about our union! If you are a member or a non member alike and want to get involved just drop us an email at unitecommunityleeds@gmail.com.

The fightback has begun, we’ve shown that we mean business, now let’s show them!

A Happy and Prosperous New Year to you, your friends, family and colleagues.

In Solidarity,

Unite Community Leeds Branch
