Here are some important dates for your diary
Tuesday 10th Feb: 6.30pm at Ebor Court, Skinner Street, LS1 4ND: organising meeting for the campaign against sanctions and benefit cuts. Call or text 07930 966205 for directions, details of further meetings or to be let in when you arrive at the building.
Wednesday 11th Feb: 4.30 – 6pm, grand opening of the new Unite Community Centre, 90-92 Old Road, Farsley, LS28 5BN. The centre will be offering support with welfare issues, activist training and resources for campaigning on welfare.
Sunday Feb 22nd: banner making for the demo on the 28th. Time and venue to be confirmed: watch this space. Bring materials and ideas if possible, otherwise just bring yourself and friends. Should be a fun afternoon!
Wednesday Feb 25th: 12 noon, outside Leeds Civic Hall: lobby of the council budget-setting meeting. Tell the council we can’t take any more cuts to welfare, services, housing benefit and council tax support.
Saturday Feb 28th: 12 noon Leeds Briggate (meet near the Body Shop) – demo/rally/party with Leeds Welfare Fightback: Against Sanctions, Benefit Cuts and Work Misery. Bring friends, kids, stories, banners, placards, noisy things, fancy dress, food to share – whatever you like! Let’s make this a big one!
Monday March 2nd: National Day of Action Against Work Capability Assessments, called by DPAC (Disabled People Against Cuts). Details to be confirmed, but we’ll probably protest outside the Atos/Maximus centre in Bradford first thing, followed by an event in Leeds Briggate from 12 noon to 2pm.
Thursday March 19th:12 noon – 2pm, Leeds Briggate (meet near the Body Shop): National Day of Action Against Benefit Sanctions, called by Unite Community. Details to be confirmed – to get involved come to the Leeds Wefare Fightback planning meetings (see above).
Saturday 28th March: assemble 11.30am outside Leeds art gallery: March to save the NHS (National Health Service). Called by Keep Our NHS Public (KONP) Against cuts and privatisation of the health service.
