Below is an invitation from Unite’s political and education directors to apply for a place on Unite’s Political School in Durham this July. It also includes an opportunity to join the Durham Miners’ Gala. If you are interested and a member of Unite Community or Unite, please read the letter and complete the application form, which can be found here. The Political School comes highly recommended.
Unite National Political School – Durham 2015
We are writing to invite you to apply for a place at Durham 2015, Unite’s National Political School. This is held every year in the historic city of Durham. This year will take place from 9th-11th July 2015 in Durham. Please note that all delegates are expected to arrive in the evening of 8th July as the school will start at 9.00 am prompt on Thursday 9th July.
The school will be based on Unite’s key themes of Jobs, Health, Homes and Hope and will combine an exciting array of speakers with plenty of time for discussion and debate.
The objectives are:
- To develop a greater understanding of Unite’s political objectives.
- To explore ways of campaigning around those objectives to win for our members, their families and for the communities in which they live and work.
- To place a particular emphasis on organising and engaging young members.
- To make practical plans to deliver our objectives over the 12 months following the school.
These sessions will take place over the first two days, and on the third day all participants will join thousands of trade unionists at the Durham Miners’ Gala, one of the most important events in the trade union calendar – more information here:
The Unite Political School offers a fantastic opportunity to activists not only to get involved in our political fight back, but to develop skills to enable you to inspire others to join in that fight. With opportunity comes responsibility; this is why we’re asking applicants to say why they want to attend the school, but also to give a commitment to take action afterwards – we won’t be prescriptive about this and you’ll find a few examples on the enclosed application form.
Places are limited so make sure you get your application in by no later than Noon Tuesday 9th June 2015; we will confirm whether or not you have been successful by Thursday 11th June 2015. Please only apply if you are able to attend for all sessions including for the Gala event on Saturday.
Thank you and best wishes
Jennie Formby (Political Director) & Jim Mowatt (Education Director)
