With Banners Held High: remembering the Miners’ Strike

The sheer scale of international support for the 1984-85 miners’ strike is an inspiring but largely unknown story.

For example, two shiploads of food, clothes and toiletries sent from Denmark, the gift of 18,100lbs of lamb from the New Zealand Seaman’s Union and a flow of money into the Miners’ Solidarity Fund from all over the world. Exhibitions, a new book, PIT PROPS: Music, International Solidarity and the 1984-85 Miners’ Strike, to be launched at WBHH, and speakers from France and Denmark will celebrate this great example of international solidarity.

Speakers include: Tony Garnett (producer Cathy Come Home, Kes, The Price of Coal) and Tosh McDonald (ASLEF President).

Music: Root and Branch, Grace Petrie and David Rovics

PLUS: Exhibitions, Films, Debates and Poetry
